Discipline Policy
The main purpose of this school is to educate students.
This can only be accomplished when students are provided with a safe
environment and are able to concentrate on their studies.
The philosophy of the teachers and administrators at Arroyo High School can be stated simply
- Students behave in ways that encourage teachers to teach.
- Students behave in ways that encourage each other to learn.
- Students behave in a manner that is in the best interest to everyone.
- Students represent our school and uphold its standards honorably, on or off campus, realizing that in society we are not just an individual but a symbol of the entire Arroyo High School student body.
SCHOOL RULES
- Students MUST HAVE an Arroyo High School student ID card in their possession at all times. Student will be issued a detention if found without an ID card or hall pass.
- Students must identify themselves when asked and follow directions from school personnel.
- Food and drinks are not permitted in classrooms or buildings, unless otherwise designated.
- Students must not be vulgar, obscene nor profane in speaking, action, writing or wearing apparel.
- Students must not bring beepers, cameras, video recorders, radios, CD/tape/MP3 players, or any other item that might disrupt the educational process. Cell phones must be in the OFF position between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 2:40 p.m. Cell phones are to be used ONLY in case of an emergency i.e. lock down. All cell phones found in use, during school hours, will be confiscated and turned over to the principal. A parent conference with the principal is required in order to retrieve a cell phone.
- Students must not use skateboards, skates, bicycles or motorized vehicles on school grounds at anytime.
- Students must not fight or intimidate others.
- Students must not possess, use or sell drugs, alcohol, or tobacco on this campus or at any school-related event.
- Students must observe the dress code.
- Students must not gamble, or play card games.
- Students must have their ID and a hall pass/agenda when leaving class to use the restroom or go to another area on campus
SCHOOL CONSEQUENCE
(one or more of the following may occur)
1. Warning
2. Parent Contact/conference
3. Behavior contract
4. School Detention
5. Saturday Learning Lab
6. Isolated Classroom Environment –(ICE)
7. School Campus Special Assignment
8. Alternative School Placement
9. Off Campus Suspension
10. Expulsion
Failure to serve any assigned consequence will result in more severe disciplinary action.
Students assigned Detention, Saturday Learning Lab or ICE must be on time and bring ID card, school work or reading material. Silence is required.
DISCIPLINE POLICY
All students are expected to conduct themselves appropriately at all times. Suspension from school and possible expulsion from the school district will result if any of the following infractions occur.
EDUCATION CODE SECTION 48900
This section defines the reasons for which a student may be suspended from school.
a) (1)Caused, attempted to cause, or threatened to cause physical injury.
(2)Willfully used force or violence upon another person. CR*
b) Possessed, sold or furnished dangerous object. CR*
c) Possessed, used, sold, furnished or under the influence of controlled substance, alcoholic beverage or intoxicant. CR*
d) Offered, arranged or negotiated to sell any controlled substance, alcoholic beverage or intoxicant. Automatic expulsion is recommended. CR*
e) Attempted/committed robbery or extortion. CR*
f) Caused or attempted to cause damage to school property or private property. CR*
g) Stolen or attempted to steal school property or private property. CR*
h) Possessed or used tobacco or tobacco products.
i) Committed an obscene act or engaged in habitual profanity or vulgarity.
j) Possessed, offered, arranged or negotiated to sell drug paraphernalia. CR*
k) Disrupted school activities or defied authority of teachers, administrators or other school personnel.
l) Knowingly received stolen school property or private property.
m) Possession of an imitation firearm at school or at a school activity on or off the school grounds. Automatic expulsion is recommended.
n) Committed or attempted to commit an act of sexual battery or assault as defined by the educational code.
o) Harassed, threatened or intimidated a pupil who is a complaining witness in a school disciplinary proceeding.
**) Committed sexual harassment as defined in article 2.
**) Caused, attempted to cause, threatened to cause, or participated in an act of hate violence.
**) Made terrorist threats against school officials, school property or both.

MANDATORY EXPULSION VIOLATIONS
1) Possessing, selling or otherwise furnishing a firearm.
2) Brandishing a knife at another person.
3) Unlawfully selling a controlled substance.
4) Committing or attempting to commit a sexual assault.
AB293 – Laser pointers are classified as dangerous objects. Possession will result in removal of object and parent conference. Further disobedience will result in suspension.

ALCOHOL/DRUGS = SUSPENSION/EXPULSION
*Arroyo High School reserves the right to utilize law enforcement intervention in any matter, which it deems necessary.
PROBLEM AREAS DEFINED:
*TARDINESS-Arriving late to class
*UNVERIFIED ABSENCE AND TRUANCY-Any absence which has not been excused by both a state approved authority and an appropriate school official
*DEFIANCE OF SCHOOL PERSONNEL’S AUTHORITY-Refusal to comply with requests of school personnel
*DRESS CODE-Failure to observe the school’s dress code
*DISORDERLY CONDUCT, INCLUDING PROFANITY AND OBSCENE BEHAVIOR-Conduct and/or behavior which is disruptive to the orderly educational procedure of the school
*VERBAL ABUSE-Statements which might appear to school personnel to intimidate or injure another person
*FORGERY-Using signature or initials of any school personnel, parent or others
*THEFT-Receiving, attempting to take or taking property of others
*SMOKING/TOBACCO POSSESSION-The use or possession of tobacco of any kind, on school property or at school activities
*DESTRUCTION OR DEFACEMENT OF PROPERTY-Attempting or damaging, destroying or mutilating object(s) or material belonging to the school or other persons
*FIGHTING-Engaging in or threatening physical contact for the purpose of intimidating or inflicting harm on another person
*ARSON-Intentional burning of property
*ALCOHOL-The use, possession, or sale of alcoholic substances
*DRUGS-Possession, sale, furnishing, or use of controlled substances or their look-alikes
*PHYSICAL ASSAULT-Physical attack or intimidation of one person, or of a group of persons, upon another person or persons
*WEAPONS-The use, possession or furnishing of any knife, firearm, or other dangerous weapon or their look-alikes
*EXTORTION/ROBBERY-The solicitation of money or something of value, from another person, in return for protection, or in connection with a threat to inflict harm or robbing a person
*EXPLOSIVE DEVICES-The use, possession or sale of explosive devices
*SEXUAL HARASSMENT-Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature made by someone from or in the work or educational setting.
